- Frame materialVinyl gives the most for the money. Fiberglass is stronger and more stable. Wood looks traditional and costs the most to maintain.
- Insert vs full-frameInsert windows fit into the existing frame. Full-frame replacement removes everything to the studs, which costs more but fixes rot and air leaks.
- Size and styleLarge picture windows, bays and specialty shapes cost well above standard double-hung units.
- Glass packageLow-E coatings and gas fills are standard on most quality windows. Triple-pane adds cost and is most useful in cold climates.
