- MaterialVinyl is the lowest-cost, lowest-maintenance option. Fiber cement is heavier and needs painting but resists fire and pests.
- Wall areaSiding area is roughly the home's perimeter times wall height, minus large openings. Gables add area.
- Removal and repairTearing off old siding reveals the sheathing, and any rot has to be fixed before new siding goes on.
- Trim detailsCorners, window trim, soffits and fascia take time and add cost beyond the flat wall area.
